This is the Hebrew month of Abib. God told Israel to reckon this month as the first month. Passover represents such a huge life changing event that we are to begin reckoning the time of our lives all over again.
Exodus 12:2
"This month is to be for you the first month, the first month of your year

Because the LORD kept vigil that night to bring them out of Egypt, on this night all the Israelites are to keep vigil to honor the LORD for the generations to come.
When we celebrate Passover on the proper day we bring Honor to God who has delivered us from the power of Egypt (sin).
